Water Parks

There are several excellent waterparks in Mallorca.

To the west of Palma there are two excellent waterparks in Magaluf itself.

Aqualand Magaluf (Ctra Cala Figuera) http://www.aqualand.es/magaluf/mallorca/is just on the outskirts of the resort and has ample waterslides including several which are specially designed for children. Just across the main road is the Western Water Park http://www.westernpark.com/westernpark/magaluf/ which has the highest slide in Mallorca and has quite a few shows to keep everyone amused. Of the two this one is better geared towards younger children whilst teenagers will prefer Aqualand.

The largest other is Aqualand in L'Arenal which has a great selection of water slides located in beautiful gardens. There are buses there from the centre of Palma, otherwise get on the motorway from Palma to Santanyi and come off at exit 13.

Places to visit

Just a couple of kilometres inland is the town of Andratx which is well worth a visit to see the 13th church of Santa Maria d'Andratx which is only open on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday mornings. A good plan is to head there on a Wednesday and tie it in with a visit to the weekly market which takes place in the area surrounding the Paseo de Son Mos. The helpful Andratx tourist information office is inside the beautiful castle of Son Mos which is also worth a visit. The newly built Centro Cultural at Andratx is one of Europe's biggest private buildings for contemporary art. The Centre includes a 1500m2 "Kunsthalle" which holds 3 major exhibitions per year of both established and emerging young artists in contemporary art, as well as a large gallery, restaurant, bookshop and a number of artists´ studios. In the near future it is also planned that additional facilities will be added, including a ceramics and lithographic workshops. Contact details are: Centro Cultural Andratx 07150 Andratx Telephone: +34 971 137 770 Fax: +34 971 137 691 Web site: www.ccandratx.com

There are some great short excursions which can include the town of Andratx. To the west you can head for the beautiful little town of S'Arracó then continue on to Sant Elm on the coast which is a great place for lunch at one of the terrace restaurants overlooking the bay. To truly discover the countryside of Mallorca you should head out of Andratx to the north and visit such charming villages as Es Capdella, Galilea, Puigpunyent and Calvia or else take an extensive drive covering more of the Serra de Tramuntana which makes up the north west coast of Mallorca

Coast/Beach

There are lovely beaches locally; small beach, 10 minutes walks, whilst both Camp de Mar and Sant Elm sandy sheltered beaches are 5/10 minutes drive. And Peguera long sandy beech is 10 minutes drive. Santa Ponsa or Portals 15 minutes.

Golf

Camp de Mar golf course is a 5km drive and Santa Ponsa golf course is a 10km drive. Both are kept to a very high standard and are challenging courses. The south west of the Mallorca has no less than 6 championship standard golf courses. An local organisation based in Magaluf called "Mallorca Golf Connection", are the official TUI Thomson golf booking agency, can organise tee-off times, transport to and from the courses and discounted green fees. Fiestas

A trip to Mallorca wouldn't be the same if you missed one of the local Fiestas. The ones around Camp de Mar are: 29 June Sant Pere at Andratx. 16 July Verge Del Carme at Port d'Andratx. August Fiesta de Mores y Cristians at Sant Elm. 28 August Sant Agusti in S'Arracó. 8 September Verge de la Trapa also at S'Arracó.

Majorca may not be the first place you think of to see fine examples of classic British sports cars. However, from time to time during the summer months The Classic Car Club of Port d'Andratx meet and show off their proud possessions to the crowds of admiring onlookers. For further information on the dates of forthcoming events please contact: The Classic Car Club of Port d'Andratx Calle Almirante Riera, 2 07157 Port d'Andratx Telephone: +34 971 671 198 Fax: +34 971 673 113

Certainly well worth a mention here is the Dragonera Natural Park and the Dragonera Island, which is really a 6km long rock that is named because of its likeness to a dragon's back rising out of the water. In 1987 this area of the island was designated a natural conservation area, and has since then enjoyed the protection of the Majorca Council from commercial development. Regular boat trips leave from the Camp de Mar to make the short trip out to Dragonera Island, where there is a small museum and evidence of a Roman settlement at the Cova de sa Font. Although at its nearest point the island is only 700 metres from the mainland, separated by the ‘Es Freu' channel, private visits to the island are allowed but only with an official permit from the local council offices.

Pirates Adventure

One of the most popular evening attractions with all nationalities in the south of the island is the Pirates Adventure (Els Pirates), which is based on the outskirts of Magaluf. It takes the form of a Dinner/Show with a pirate theme, and has short dialogues in English throughout. The 2009 season commences 29th March and runs through until Friday 26th October, with performances every evening except Saturday, Sunday and Monday. In addition to the familiy show, there is also a special adults only "Pirates Uncut" performance which is held every Friday night. Contact details for more information and bookings for either show are: Pirates Adventure Carretera la Porrassa Magaluf Telephone: +34 971 130 411 Fax: +34 971 130 083 Web site: www.piratesadventure.com
